This subfile showcases a diverse array of archaeological and cultural sites across the United States, with a special focus on rock art and conservation efforts. Among the key locations is Painted Rock in Carrizo Plain, California, where archaeologists have engaged in cleaning, graffiti removal, and documentation to preserve this historic site. The Carrizo Plain’s landscape, rich in geological features such as the San Andreas Fault and Selby Rocks, is particularly notable for its petroglyphs.

The subfile also features other significant sites, including the Grand Canyon and Canyon de Chelly in Arizona, Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado, Knapp Ranch in Califonia, and Waikoloa Petroglyph Preserve in Hawaii. These locations highlight the landscapes, rock art, and, in many cases, the visitor experience. Additionally, the collection features images of the modern art installation Christo’s Umbrellas at Tejon Pass, California, blending historical and contemporary cultural expressions.

Included in the collection are ten images of Namadgi National Park in Australia, offering a comparative perspective on rock art site management through the example of the Yankee Hat Track.

The majority of the photographs from the United States were taken during Nicholas Stanley-Price's personal visit to the country.
